Week 7 summary

Week 7 is about creating animation. I liked working on Lynda's practice this week. The symbol animation was challenging. Animation gives an additional effect to the website, these are usually saved as GIF files.
One more task is to developing ideas on final project. I have proposed two project ideas in my previous blog, hoping to get approval from Ms.Jennifer. 

Project idea

I am not sure of  any idea for project. I am not a member of any groups here in Maryland, since I am new to this place. I am planning to create website for some fictitious business.  My Ideas are as follows:
1) I would like to build a website for a made up boutique selling Ethnic Indian wear for women.

2) I have a  passion for cooking and have been maintaining a food blog. I would like to build a website for a made up Indian restaurant.Here are some of the samples from my cooking blog

Week 6 summary

I am lagging behind this week. I could not complete the assignment as I had few guests from India. I was busy with them whole week. Last week I had designed the banners, this week I have to fix the banner which I haven’t done yet.

Week 6’s lecture discusses about creating background for the banner.

Week 5

In this week, I learnt all about fireworks. It is a cool drawing tool. Vector tools are very handy and easy to use. The firework files can be optimized to GIF and PNG format. The shape tool can be used to create different shapes like, polygon, circle, rectangle and many more. The graphics are edited using property panel.

The text book has various shapes and designs. The author discusses texture, light and shadow, layout designing and background images and pattern.

Week 4

The 4^th week topic is about CSS, typography and web fonts. The CSS are set of rules that guide the design, typography and layout of web page. It has two parts set of instructions and reference back to those instructions. 

Typography enhances the visual hierarchy by establishing relationship between pictures and text. More resources can be found in following link.

Glossary of Font Terms helps to know more about web font’s names. The serif and sans-serif are the industry standard font families.

http://www.webdesignbooth.com/12-really-useful-image-optimization-tools-for-web-designers/ discusses the useful image optimization for web designers. They are Smush.it, Dynamic Drive Online, PunyPng, and SiteReportCard are all web based tools. Shrink O’ Matic, OptiPNG, ImageOptim, and PNGOut, PNGGauntlet, JPG & PNG Stripper, TweakPNG, and RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool) .I liked the PUNYPNG. It is a very simple and easy to use tool.

Week 3

This week I learnt about the types of links for websites. Some of the files like JPEG will open in a file whereas word file will download. The CSS and HTML are structures for creating webpages.

Week 2

Week 2 talks about the URL-Uniform Resource Locator, a reference to the source on the internet. It has two parts namely protocol identifier and resource name.
Eg : http://www.google.com
http refers to  protocol identifier and www.google.com refers to resource name.
Color:
Color is a very important part of a website. The author mentions about the emotional attributes of some of the color groups. He gives an example of http://aaronwalter.com to explain Monochromatic color scheme. Color scheme designer 3, Adobe Kuler, COLOURlovers are some examples of tools and resources to choose colors for palette.
