Week 15

This week I created pages based on the design template.Updated all files, linked the second navigation in the footer, My header is still not fixed. I had made a banner with text but I was told I have to place the text inside the CSS. I tried but did not succeed. I posted my links on week 15 discussion board. I have to complete the project and submit it by 18th of this month. 

Week 14 Summary

Domain name is name consists of name and extension or top-level domain.. The  Top level domain can be .com, .edu ,.us etc. The domain names are then registered, before registering the names should be checked for availability. Some of the common registrars are,

Network soluitons
A template can be create by saving a HTML page as template.

Week 12 Summary

Week 12 addresses some of the hosting sites for our final project. The search engine sample describes the steps for how the search engine works when you enter a keyword.
There are different types of search engines-
Crawler-Based Search engine
Human powered directories
Hybrid search engine.
 This week the final project assignment included creating sliced graphics in Photoshop and designing websites using CSS in Adobe Dreamweaver.   

Week11

This week was about creating a design document for final project. The  lynda.com practice helps a lot in developing website. I have created website using Dreamweaver and notepad++ in my other course but Photoshop is somewhat different than that. Dreamweaver has lot of tools than Photoshop and easy to create website. The following is my design for this week.

Week 10

This week I submitted the wireframe for the project. Week 8 Summary

This week I created an account on gettyimages for DigitalJenny Project. I liked collecting pictures on the website.The final project questionnaire is yet to be filled. The final banner requires some changes and I am working on it. http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com and http://www.webpagesthatsuck.com/worst-websites-of-2010-contenders.html discusses the worst websites of 2012. 

Week 7 summary

Week 7 is about creating animation. I liked working on Lynda's practice this week. The symbol animation was challenging. Animation gives an additional effect to the website, these are usually saved as GIF files.
One more task is to developing ideas on final project. I have proposed two project ideas in my previous blog, hoping to get approval from Ms.Jennifer. 

Project idea

I am not sure of  any idea for project. I am not a member of any groups here in Maryland, since I am new to this place. I am planning to create website for some fictitious business.  My Ideas are as follows:
1) I would like to build a website for a made up boutique selling Ethnic Indian wear for women.

2) I have a  passion for cooking and have been maintaining a food blog. I would like to build a website for a made up Indian restaurant.Here are some of the samples from my cooking blog

Week 6 summary

I am lagging behind this week. I could not complete the assignment as I had few guests from India. I was busy with them whole week. Last week I had designed the banners, this week I have to fix the banner which I haven’t done yet.

Week 6’s lecture discusses about creating background for the banner.

Week 5

In this week, I learnt all about fireworks. It is a cool drawing tool. Vector tools are very handy and easy to use. The firework files can be optimized to GIF and PNG format. The shape tool can be used to create different shapes like, polygon, circle, rectangle and many more. The graphics are edited using property panel.

The text book has various shapes and designs. The author discusses texture, light and shadow, layout designing and background images and pattern.

Week 4

The 4^th week topic is about CSS, typography and web fonts. The CSS are set of rules that guide the design, typography and layout of web page. It has two parts set of instructions and reference back to those instructions. 

Typography enhances the visual hierarchy by establishing relationship between pictures and text. More resources can be found in following link.

Glossary of Font Terms helps to know more about web font’s names. The serif and sans-serif are the industry standard font families.

They are Smush.it, Dynamic Drive Online, PunyPng, and SiteReportCard are all web based tools. Shrink O’ Matic, OptiPNG, ImageOptim, and PNGOut, PNGGauntlet, JPG & PNG Stripper, TweakPNG, and RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool) .I liked the PUNYPNG. It is a very simple and easy to use tool.

Week 3

This week I learnt about the types of links for websites. Some of the files like JPEG will open in a file whereas word file will download. The CSS and HTML are structures for creating webpages.

Week 2

Week 2 talks about the URL-Uniform Resource Locator, a reference to the source on the internet. It has two parts namely protocol identifier and resource name.
Eg : http://www.google.com
http refers to  protocol identifier and www.google.com refers to resource name.
Color:
Color is a very important part of a website. The author mentions about the emotional attributes of some of the color groups. He gives an example of http://aaronwalter.com to explain Monochromatic color scheme. Color scheme designer 3, Adobe Kuler, COLOURlovers are some examples of tools and resources to choose colors for palette.

Week 1 Summary

The ART 170 class for the fall semester begins with the introduction to web browsers.

Web Browsers are an application, when URLs are entered on a web browser’s address bar, it searches for HTML, CSS, and JavaScript returns with the required format and displays on the screen. There are different web browsers available in the market. Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, internet Explorer are some of the important web browsers. The web browsers releases different versions with some modifications, new players are introduced every year.

As mentioned above web browsers display WebPages or websites on their screen. Websites are collection of WebPages that are linked together and shares a common design. Creating websites requires knowledge of HTML and CSS. HTML is a set of instructions to create WebPages.HTML was introduced in 1989.CSS is a design layout introduced in 1994, the current version is CS3. Some simple text editors like notepad and simple texts are used. There are some editors which not only create the code but also help to visualize the webpage. These are called WYSIWYG editors. Adobe Dreamweaver is an example of such editor. The files and folders has to be named by following some rules like, never using spaces between the file names, always use a lowercase letter and always write file extension like html and jpg. These files should be saved under same folder called root folder.
